Teasmade 2.0

The Goblin 854 was made in 1974. I got a broken one from a charity shop when I was a student. I decided that owning one would make me the envy of the campus. Women would desire me, men would fear me. I never got it to work. It was the first thing I ever electrocuted myself on. I think a little bit of wee came out when it happened.

Having inherited a box-fresh one, I decided to have another look inside.

The impressive thing is that the tea-making ‘logic’ is nothing more than 3 switches and a clock that completes a circuit when the alarm time is reached.

This means that connecting it to the internet is a breeze. All you need to do is to replace the alarm clock signal with a relay switch connected to a Raspberry Pi.
